Competitions and Exhibitions

With all the research I have been doing on other artists and the art arena in general, I have come to the conclusion that in order to really become successful and recognised as a serious artist you need to exhibit your work. So just this week and ever the optimist, I have submitted some paintings to a couple of prestigious exhibitions and a well recognised art suppliers competition. Well why not? My research has proven to me that art, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder so if I like them someone else should do too. I have also had two works accepted to the Southend Arts Council Community Exhibition. Wow! I hear you cry but before you congratulate me for my incredible success I have to confess that they don't vet any entries, so I could be submitting a sugar lump for all they know. Well I am sure you would agree that worse things have won art prizes! It will, however, be interesting to go along and see what else is on display when it opens in March. Anyone fancy submitting an entry called shoe? One really good thing which came out of this week though was that I was asked by Southend Art Club to submit 12 paintings for their artist of the month profile. So that is exciting! At the end of this month I am going to Shropshire to do a 3 day colour mixing course. I believe it is the fundamental skill to have before putting paint to brush. I love the work of the tutor Vicki Norman at https://www.vickinormanstudio.com/. I would be very happy to paint like that. Love, live, laugh Julie
